Audio loops
Hi friends,
I am making a short advertising move and found a nice audio loop for the background. What is the best way to get this loop going?
I noticed the loop button in effect controls tab (after selecting the audio file) but selecting this doesnt loop the audio?I tried copying the same file many times in a sequence after eachother in the timeline but the transition is not smooth. When I try to use a cross face (which one is best?) it only wants to stick to one of the tracks.

One more quick question. How do I copy a file in the timeline? Ctr + dragging doesnt seem to work.
I am using version 2.0 I am a bit of a newbie so please don’t use to hifi language :p

Just like with a video dissolve, you need enough source material before your in point to overlap the previous clip. Move your in point slightly later (half the dissolve duration), and it should work. You may have to move your out point in as well.
Select the clip(s) to copy, then select copy from the drop down menu (or right-click menu), or use ctrl-C. Then park your timeline cursor at the beginning of where you want to paste. Make sure the track you want to paste to is selected (click on the track header box where the eyeball and track lock boxes are, so it turns light gray), and paste (ctrl-V).

Yezzz, I now succeed to copy files in the timeline. That saves a lot of work 🙂 Thankss.
As where the audio is concerned I am not getting it yet.
What I understood was this.
I take two times the same (looping) audio file and instead of putting them against eachother I will let one overlap the other a bit. Indeed I am then able to use a crossfade. But still the music doesnt move on smoothly. The rythm breaks a bit.I don’t understand what you mean with “Move your in point slightly later (half the dissolve duration), and it should work. And isnt there a way to make the file automatically loop (not dragging, placing and crossfading the same file numerous times).

All I’m saying is that you can’t do a crossfade between two clips where the out and in points are at the end of the source clips. There is no overlap to work with. That’s why you have to move the edit points in slightly to allow for overlap.
Music editing can be challenging – the more “musical” you are, the easier it is. You can’t put an edit any old place and have it sound good (unless you are lucky). You have to be sensitive to the beat, the chord progression, the phrasing, the key, and other asthetic factors. That being said, try to get something that sounds close, and try improving it by tweaking frame by frame.
Other than cut, copy, and paste, I don’t know of any looping function in Premiere. If you have the Adobe suite, you could mess with some of the canned selections in Soundbooth. With these, you can set your ideal duration, and Soundbooth will tailor the music to match. There may even be a loop function.

Thanks a lot Eric, I think I understand it all now.
Also good to know that there is no way to loop the audio (when used as a background for the movie). Now I can stop searching for it.Is there any free online option for turning my 20 second audio-loop into a 3 minute musicpiece?
