Premiere capture window shows different times
I’m a bit confused…
I use Premiere Pro CS4 in Vista and I am capturing HDV.
In the capture window I can see the timecode when recording. on the bottom left it shows the correct time. But on the top it shows:”Capture duration” and that gives a wrong time. and not just a bit…. after 24 minutes of capturing it just gives me 20 minutes, so it’s way off.
Anyone knows why this is and should I worry about it? The final captured movie is allright.
not a matter of life and death but for me it’s worrying.

Never noticed that. I would not worry about it. Could just be a drop frame thing.

Its normal behaviour.
Capturing mpeg takes a bit more time to write to HD than DV. -
Oke, thank you both for reassuring.
It’s only that in the capture window strange things happen, like “press escape to stop recording”, and nothing happens…I have to press the ‘stop’button and hope for the filenamedialogbox to popup. Sometimes that even doesn’t happen and I have to start over again.
So I don’t trust this capture window anymore. I had no problems in CS3 though.Thanks again.

I just purchased Adobe’s Creative Suite 4 Premier Production after working with Elements for three years. To my great displeaser when I went to capture I learned that “scene detect” is not available for HDV. So if I let it capture at will it will make a clip that is 63 minutes long. This totally disrupts the workflow. It’s unimagineable.
There must be someway to get around this. Is HDVsplit a good solution? Does it work independently from the Production Premium.
If not the whole package is not of much use. I use Vista Home Premium 64 as the OS. -

it’s a known problem. I agree that is should be solved.
There are some workarounds though.
