Activity Forums Adobe Premiere Pro Export to DVD-Mpeg or Mpeg?

    Jerry,

The difference is that MPEG2-DVD makes seperate audio and video files (which Encore likes), whereas straight MPEG2 will interleave the audio and video in one file.

In regards to your previous posts, CS4 on 64-bit Vista with 8-12 GB of ram should take care of your low memory issues. However, there are things you can do in CS3 that help, like closing any unused timelines/bins; setting the optimize switch in Premiere general preferences to “memory”; inserting the 3 GB switch in boot.ini; and closing and reopening Premiere when you get a low memory warning.

As for Ultra CS3, you could reinstall it on your system when you upgrade to CS4.

In regards to Matrox, your problems sound familiar, in that it is not uncommon for people who stray from Matrox’s recommended hardware list to enter a world of hurt. I have been a user of Matrox products from the DigiSuite days, and have found that by adhering to their recommendations, I have built many a stable and happy system, including systems based on the RT-2000, RT-2500, RTX100, and now Axio and the RTX2. If you need analog I/O, would like real time effects including an excellent chroma key, a high quality I-frame MPEG codec to render to, and accelerated rendering and export to DVD, it may be worth the money. Otherwise, Premiere by itself is no slouch.

    Wow, ok, thanks.

I do have about 5 timelines tabbed above, which have been open. I will keep them closed.

My bins are displayed as folder icons, whithout showing the contents, so I guess that means they are closed?

I did recently change the preferences to “memory” from performance, and I did see an improvement in rendering.

The only thing I don’t understand is the “inserting the 3 GB switch in the boot.ini file. How do I do that or check that the video guys who built the machine and installed CS3 didn’t already do that. They claim to know every optimization trick.

    Thanks again.

Chances are the 3GB switch is already set, but it’s easy to check. Look for the boot.ini file on the root of your C drive. (You may have to enable “show hidden files and folders” and disable “hide protected operating system files” in Explorer->tools/folder options/view). Open with notepad. See if 3GB is added to the line “multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS=”Microsoft Windows XP Professional” /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /3GB /USERVA=2500. If not, add it as above and save.

Closing unused timelines should make a significant difference in available memory.

    Thanks Eric,

Hey, I “don’t” see the 3 GB switch, good news I guess as this should help it sounds like.

Before I do the edit, here is my current boot.ini line:

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS=”Microsoft Windows XP Professional” /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer

    Your suggestion to add:

    /3GB /USERVA=2500

is understood, but do I leave the “usepmtimer” word above before or after it?

Yes, I’d leave it. It has something to do with processor timers, and is used with specific processor sets.

To be on the safe side, you may want to add a system restore point before you make the change.

Other than that, I think you are on the right track. Make sure there is a space between each entry.

Sorry, but maybe you’d better spell it out for me. I still don’t get it.

I had asked you if I put your suggestion BEFORE or AFTER that other line.

You responded saying yes to leave that other line, but you didn’t respond as to WHERE exactly it’s supposed to be, before or after the line you suggested.

    Thanks.

I don’t think it matters, but I’d insert it after the fastdetect switch.
