Premiere Pro project window problem
Hi. Thanks in advance for your help. A newbie with Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 so it may be a dumb question. Been doing some editing previously with an older DV camera experiencing no problems but……..
Just got a new video camera-Canon HV30 which records at size 1440 x 1080. Captured video clip to Adobe Premiere Pro. The video is normal on the “project” window monitor on the left but on the “program” window it’s like it’s “zoomed in” showing only the middle portion of the sequence. If you adjust the fit of course it just takes everything up or down in size but doesn’t “zoom it out” so I can see the clip to edit it. What am I doing wrong?

The source window will always adjust itself to show the whole frame.
You need to make sure your project settings match the footage. If you are editing HD, make sure to choose an HDV project setting at 1080i.

Actually, there is a magnification drop-down list box below both the program and source monitors. If it is set to “Fit” then you will always see the whole frame.

I mean that it will always show you the whole frame no matter what you have for sequence (as long as your setting is set to fit, yes)

That’s the confusing part. I’ve never had this problem before. The program window always showed the entire frame but not with footage from this new camera. And if I use the drop down “fit” menu, it adjusts the entire view of course, but still in the “zoomed in” look.The only way I can see the entire frame is to go to the effects control window and adjust the scale. But of course I’d have to do that with EVERY frame to make the entire video viewable while working on it.

Are you working in an HD project or in standard Def ?

Then could you list your project settings, or even better, take a screenshot?
This issue is most likely related to that…

THANK YOU VINCE! You were right, I had one setting off. I had looked several times at all the different settings but missed that one. Once I corrected that the program monitor displayed everything like normal. Amateur mistake. My bad. Thanks again!

Based on the description of the result it sounds like the sequence settings are not a match for the footage. The zoomed in look of the clips as they come into the sequence would indicate the sequence frame size is set smaller than the frame size of the clip.
Try to make a new sequence and select the HDV 1080i setting and throw some clips in there to see if the result is the same.

I have a similar issue here, but in my case I am trying to insert still images to create a slideshow basically. I’m not sure what settings I need to be changing to get my still image to fit into the window and not looked like it is zoomed in. I even exported to a DVI file and watched it back and the images are zoomed in. Please help! I appreciate your patients as I am a Premiere Pro newbie as well.
