Up until this week all of my HDV projects have played smoothly on the time line in Adobe Premiere CS3. I started a new project, dumped in some HDV footage from my Canon XH-A1 like i have done 100 times before, played it back in the time line and it has a slight stutter to it. I opened older projects just to compare the old with the new and the stutter is in all of the old projects as well. I am running an Imac w/ 2.8 GHz Intel Core Duo with 4 Gb 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. I am editing from a GDISK GRAID Tarabite drive connected through FW 800.

    Any Suggestions?

    A few suggestions:
    1. Check that your disks are defragged.
    2. Run a disk checking utility to look for problems.
    3. Check if there are unnecesary processes running in background and shut them down. Processor time is precious on an NLE workstation.

I’ve had the EXACT same problem! Everything will be fine, then I’ll open the project the next day and sometimes certain clips will have the stutter that’s noticeable in pans. My remedy has been to re digitize that clip and that always works, but it’s time consuming and usually requires re-rendering. I’m on a Windows platform with the Matrox LE.

I tried to recapture the footage in question. That did not work. I completely reinstalled CS3. I ran a Mac diagnostic disc and after 90 minutes of testing it told me that all of my hardware was fine. I opened some older projects that never stuttered before and they do now.

    Frustrated.
