Hello! I make short medical information videos (2-3 min) that I then export and upload as .flv files to my website. The finished product that goes on the site looks pixelated and I haven’t been able to fix this.
The videos are basically slide shows with voice over. When I import an image into the timeline and there is black space around it I use the “scale” effect in the effects panel. I zoom in or out to make it fit. Everything looks great in the viewing window so I send the sequence to the Adobe Media Encoder. I select to export as Flash Video but in the output tab there appears black space around the edges of the image! This is odd to me as on the Source tab there is no black space and the dimensions are 720 X 480. But when I set it to those exact dimensions in the output tab there is black, empty space!
I messed around with the dimensions and found that at 599 X 444 the black space gets trimmed out and there is none. So I set my bitrate at 600 and exported.
However, when I uploaded it to my site and played it back, it looks pretty messy and pixelated. The average youtube bitrate is around 350 but even those look better than mine! I know dimensions work best for FLV files when they are multiples of 16 but those just give me black space.
What am I doing wrong? I don’t want to jack up my bitrate super high for obvious reasons. And this only seems to be a problem for FLV files. I assume it has something to do with when I first import the images but I don’t know.
I can provide screen shots if needed. Thank you!
