Troubleshooting Premiere CS4 on Vista 64
A friend from a video group at MSFT pointed me to this forum. Lots of great information but no silver bullet.
I am running Vista 64 Ultimate on an Intel quad core chip on an MSI P7N motherboard, X1900 512 meg graphics card, 8 gigs of RAM, and booting off a new 1 gig Seagate hard drive.
After some initial hiccups I got Photoshop and Lightroom running perfectly (had to update the graphics driver).
Premiere CS4 will install and start, but always hangs. Sometimes it hangs when I am working within the program. It always hangs when I try to export a project. Media encoder starts up, cranks away for a minute or two, then freezes.
There are no error screens, it just hangs.
If I go into task manager and manually shut down all of the Premiere processes, then I can restart Premiere (then it freezes again). Otherwise it own’t start without a reboot.
I have done the following so far:
1) Ran memtest against all RAM on the system (OK)
2) Swapped out the graphics card for a different card (no change in behavior)
3) Reinstalled CS4 (twice) (no change in behavior). This is a fresh Vista 64 install with all updates installed.
I am running out of ideas.
I am reluctant to go back to Vista 32 or XP because Photoshop absolutely screams on this system.Any thoughts on other troubleshooting steps, or tips for dentifying which componenet of Premiere is causing the problem?
Thanks in advance.
