  Premiere keeps crashing on mov files

  Premiere CS3 crashes everytime I click on an MOV file. I’m on window XP pro – the event viewer pinpoints that premiere is crashing because of the quicktime module, or as it states “faulting module quicktime.qts, version 7.55.90.70”. I haven’t had any trouble with mov files for years until now. Ive uninstalled and re-installed with the latest available version and it didn’t help. Other than that, nothing has changed on this machine.

  I also can no longer encode mov files, I get and API Failure message the n files disappears.

  I can’t find and reference to this error regarding premiere in various google searches, so I’m hoping someone reading this had an idea.

  Try an older version of QT…uninstall the latest first.

  No luck. Still crashed. Went back to 7.4, 7.3 and 7.1. I can’t export to an MOV either from Premiere. I get the “API Failure” error – no corrisponding event in event viewer. Tried the suggestions I found on google with that error, my audio rates are not 11 or 22k, and my tmp file drive is 500GB, so it’s not running out of room. Thanks for the suggestion though, I do appreciate your time.

  I tried those, they didn’t help. But I did manage to fix it another way, I’ll post it in can anyone else runs into this migraine inducing problem.

  I did two things, one safe and one drastic, and unfortunately I did both then tested rather than testing after each one so I don’t know which one worked for sure.

  First, when I uninstalled QT again, I deleted the directory in the program files folder before reinstalling.

  I also removed all registry entries relating to QT as well before reinstalling.

  Again, I don’t know for sure which of these made it work now, but one of them fixed it.
