Adobe Premiere and JPG’s for stop motion animation
Hi – I’m trying to make a stop motion video with adobe premier… my questions is:
When I import the jpg into premiere… the jpg does not seem to fit the width of the video (I’m trying to make HDV 1080). There are these two black space on the left and right of the frame… is there any way to fit the image to the frame? Should I re-size every image or is there a way to output the video to fit?
Also – when I output, instead of exporting HDV 1080, it’s exporting to a small size… any idea how I can change that setting? Thanks!

Doesn’t right-click (on jpeg in bin) > interpret footage > (then choose spect ratio that you’re after) work?

Well…first off I might try PNGs over JPGs… Premiere Pro has historically had some memory shortcomings when handling lots and lots of JPGs (a few don’t seem to bother much).
Second, HDV is not 1920×1080 square pixel… It’s 1440×1080 with pixels that are 4:3 (wider than tall). In any HDV native editing mode, that’s the framesize the NLE is using, and a 1920×1080 image will look stretched. I’d probably edit in 1920×1080 uncompressed if it were me.
as far as exporting…without you telling us specific project settings and export settings, it’s pretty tough to go on just the “small size” statement. Is a small framesize? Filesize? What are you playing it back in to verify the size?

When importing stills or video into Premiere Pro you can set the software so it automatically scales your pieces to whatever your projects settings are. In the main menu go to Project->Project Settings->General. Once there simply check the box that implies scale clips etc.
