DVCPro HD codec
I have some varicam footage that we brought down through Final Cut Pro HD on a mac, saving with the DVCPro HD codec. I’m now wanting to use this footage on my PC with After Effects (7), but the footage comes through as white. I’ve installed the avid dvcpro hd code, but it hasn’t made any difference, the movs still aren’t giving me video, whether in QT or AE. Can anyone point me in the direction of an appropriate codec? Or tell me what I might need other than a slap to the back of the head to make this happen?

The Apple DVCPRO HD codec is not a standard Quicktime codec, but rather one of codecs that are installed when you have any of the Apple pro video applications (FCP/DVD SP/Motion). As you know, none of those exist for Windows. So you’ll probably have to transcode your video files to some other codec to use them on a PC. The standard Quicktime PhotoJPEG codec is a valid option if you want to keep reasonanly small data rates, similar to the DV100/DVCPRO HD ones.

Yes, that is your option. I do the same thing.
Just watch your aspect ratios.
720p DVCPRO HD is actually 960×720
FCP makes the autoadjustment in the mac to 1280×720 -
Great, thanks for your help. One other question, I’m primarily doing composite green screen work with this footage, is photo jpeg going to be a viable option here, or is it likely I’ll need to use animation?
