    Hi all
I have tried to trawl through some of the threads on the subject of capture, but there are thousands on here! So…

Ive been trying to capture footage from mini dv tape on a Sony DCR-TRV900E, via firewire, using Vista on a PC. The footage is PAL 4:3 as far as i know. All is well with the capture, i can control the camera, save the footage etc. But as the footage is shown in the capture window, it appears with lots of lines through it, it appears to be a problem with the fields. Once ive saved the footage into the time line ive tried all the different field options on the actual clip, clicking on it in the time line. But all the results i get are still full of lines.

When initially opening Premier, ive tried all the different set ups, PAL standard/widescreen etc. Im assuming it is something to do with my premier set up, as when i watch the footage back on the camera, it looks fine.

Any help is much appreciated! Should i just use something else to capture with instead of Premier? Anything anyone can recommend anything good and free? Im guessing this is something simple, i just cant find it.

    Thanks all
    i

it could be the fields are the wrong way. try deinterlacing in field options. is it fixed?
then try reverse feields tick box – same place.
try capturing a small part with Win mov maker. import that. how does it compare?
th trv900 might record in upper 1sr and ppro is capturing loer 1st.

The TRV-900 records LFF, just as all DV cameras. Just make sure that your project settings reflect LFF.

    Thanks Harm
Im not sure how i would get my project settings reflect LFF tho?

One thing that i did spot, if i go to Capture > Settings > Edit and then under the General section, my Fields option is grayed out, but displaying No Fields (Progressive Scan). Is this what i need to change? How do i get access to it?

Thanks for all the advice guys.

Open a new standard DV project. You currently seem to have a 24P project, which is not correct.

I have found that the capture window does show quite a bit of what is called COMBING, meaning that the edges of things that are moving in your shot from left to right or right to left are jaggy like a fine tooth comb. What you’re seeing is the actual fields at that point and I’m not sure why Premeir shows them to you this way and I think it only happens with interlaced originals. HOWEVER for me when I look at this same footage on a timeline the combing is gone and everything looks ok. So my question is how does the footage look on the time line? If it looks ok just ignore the combing artifacts during capture. But definitely start with a fresh PAL DV25 project with NO PROGESSIVE scan options as others have suggested.

    Good Luck,

    Nate
