Hi my name is Karen. I am currently doing self study with L. Bakers book, complete course. I want to apply a transition. The end result must be a split screen effect. Page 112-131 session 4. the transition is a push transit. After you ad effects in effects control window it’s supposed to create the split screen effect, I’ve tried several times can’t get it rigth. Please help. I also want to attend a course in adobe premiere pro. I am from South Africa. Pretoria

Split screen is achieved by scaling and positioning clips such that each one does not fill the frame, thus making room for other clip(s) in the same frame.
You will also find links to many free tutorials in the PremiereProPedia that will quickly show you how things are done in Premiere Pro.

Hi Eddie Thankyou for youre help. I must say I am not that familiar with premiere pro, what do you mean clips must not fill the frame, and how much do you have to change the clips for the effect to work. Thankyou for that link.

On re-reading your original post I believe I misunderstood your intent.
What I was describing is how to do a split screen effect manually, which involves using the scale and position parameters in the Effect Controls Panel.
If you want to perform a transition then use a transition from the transitions list, not the effects list. Also be sure to understand and use “handles”.
I’m serious about watching the tutorials, they will help you.

Hi Eddie, thanks for replying. I’ve captured wedding material yesterday, and tried inserting the push transition, I followed all the instructions in the book, and with great relieve I’ve had success. Strange that I’ve struggled in the book’s project, but I’m glad I got that right. Thanks once again for the adobe tutorials link. I have alot to learn, in fact the capturing is confusing, I’ve tried one of the capturing tutorial, it helped me to do batch capturing. I still need to figure out how to have clips droped and not a hole 1 hour footage. Thanks.
