I need help with Adobe Premiere Pro CS3. I have HD footage that I want to import into a new HDV project file, because I am working with HD footage. When I start a new project file and than import my footage, and than place the footage on the timeline, the footage is twice as small as the frame size. Of course, I can always scale the size of the footage to 200% and it will fit just fine, but than the footage gets pixellated. I am looking for clean and clear footage. I have attached two screen shots of what I am talking about. The first is a picture of my new project file select, with the option I choose, being highlighted. The second screen shot is of the footage, that was inserted into the timeline, without working on it yet. Please note, I have tried all the HDV project options and they all yield the same results!

Okay, I changed the settings to HDV 720p30 with better results, but still, the footage is smaller than the screen size. The imported footage is shown at 100% in the picture below…unaltered! I have also attached a picture of the footage properties.

From the 720×480 frame size, it looks like your importing Standard def. footage. Are you using an HDV camera that can downconvert footage? If so, make sure your camera isn’t doing that, and if it is, change it and try to recapture using the proper HDV preset.

You are so right Eric…it took me several hours to figure it all out trying so many different ways. I have a Sony Handycam HDR-SR11 and it does not come with a firewire port, which is required to capture video through APP; however, it does have a HDMI port and I am hoping the I can capture the footage through that port…but I have to buy a cable for it. And I know for certainty that APP can not capture footage from the camcorder using USB.

If the HDMI port does not work, than I am stuck using the Sony’s software editing program…which is as basic as you can get or I just import the footage through the MPEG output setting and scale up the footage and add the cinmon converter to adjust for pixelating.

I’m pretty sure that you won’t be able to capture through the HDMI port, umless you have some special capture card that allows it.

Also, you’ve got an AVCHD camera there, and at the moment PPro doesn’t work well with that format yet – natively at least. You can buy plug-ins that allow you to work with it. Check around and you can find out what other users think of them.

Also, Adobe did just announce a new version of Premiere Elements (a much more basic version of PPro and costs about $100) that does work with AVCHD files…something to consider until PPro CS4 comes out.

    Hi Robert,

The Intensity and Intensity Pro capture cards from Black Magic allow you to capture full 1920×1080 video using the HDMI output of your camcorder and are reasonably priced.
