  • Lost render files and sync problems

I have been working on a documentary for a big client for the last 3 months and have hit a very big snag just this morning.

Here are the specs of my project:

    Video – HDV 50i PAL 1080×1440
    Audio – 48KHz Stereo

    My problems are as follows:

    1. I opened my project this morning to find that for some reason all the titles I had put in place on the timeline were showing as “Media Offline” in my preview screen.

    2. Any effects that I added to particular segments of video on the timeline were not showing up in the preview screen, however were still showing as active in the effects window.

    3. Just last night I rendered out a section of 5 mins so I could watch it in real time direct from the timeline. I saved my project after watching, but then when I opened it this morning the green bar indicating the files had been rendered had gone back to red and the area needed to be rendered again.

(All these problems began occurring at the same time)

Problem 1 & 2 – I have found that if I select all the titles and footage containing effects, disable it and then enable it again, this problem is rectified BUT only until I open my project again at which time they have reverted back even if I have saved it.

Problem 3 – I have tried deleting all render files then rendering out again. I have tried manually going into the folder where the render files are stored and deleting them, then rendering again. No matter how I do it, once I save, close, and then open the project again, it reverts back to its un-rendered state.

Can anyone exaplain what may have caused these problems and how they may be rectified? This is the biggest project of my career and I really need to get it fixed asap or I may not make the completion date.

    Please help me!

To rectify, delete the media cache files and render again.

To avoid it happening again, check your disk setup. It looks like your media cache got corrupted somehow, which may be caused by your disks not being setup correctly.

Thanks for your response. I have tried deleting the cache files but unfortunately that does not fix the problem.

    Any other ideas??

Looks like your disk setup may be causing this problem. If files are offline, it is often caused by changing drive letters on externals. When opening the project make sure you point to the correct drive and directory when asked where file xxx is. That should make them available in the time line.

I am having the EXACT same problem that you described. Did you ever find a way to remedy it? Please let me know. Thanks.

I have this all the time too (files offline). The reason is I use two PCs to work on my projects and I always store these on an external 3ooGB drive.

One PC sees this as the H:\ and the other see it as the L:\

So – I very carefully make sure that I tell the project where the missing avi files are stored once it opens. It repeats the request for other types of files (wavs, JPGs etc) as I have my files organised into folders by file type.

You can if you want kinda avoid this….but be wary as the plot may thicken somewhat…

If you know that Premier is expecting to see your files on say an L:\ and you know that they are located say on d:\data\myfiles you can ‘trick’ your PC into thinking that it has an L:\ by opening up a command prompt and typing…

    subst L: D:\data\myfiles

Your PC will then accept that it has an L:\ and will look in d:\data\myfiles whenever L:\ is referenced!

As I said >>>>> not for the faint hearted!!!

    Good luck!

    Great forum guys.

I am having the same problem.

I am editing four projects right now.

I finished the first project without any problems.

When I started with the 2nd project, the problem appeared. the video goes offline and it returned to becoming unrendered.

I opened the project that i’ve finished. It turned out to be exactly the same as i left it.

if the problem is with the media cache of my disk, shouldn’t the problem also occur for the first project?
