came across something rather awsome
Posted by Zander on March 10, 2006 at 2:57 amwell awsome is just about the only word i have to describe this video
https://music.eablogs.com/images/2006/02/set.mov
i was wodnering if any one could tell me how it was madeit’s obvius the cars are looped after driving around once or twice, and recorded as so, so some of this is set up but the rest is kinda well beyond me, i can only think of custom made masks for each person, but not sure

March 10, 2006 at 3:13 amHey,
I gotta say, the car animation is very nice. If this was done in 3D, then it’s amazingly well done.
As for the people, probably masking and a lot of time.
Maybe this was all a miniature set and the persons were shot on a green screen with the same angle and the cars were miniatures.
If it was all green screened, then the lighting on the hands was very well done too!
I’ll let the others bring their theory 🙂

March 10, 2006 at 3:17 amWay awesome.
Couldn’t it just be duplicate layers of one clip, with masks and little well chosen time re-mapping?
I gotta go try it. Later.

March 10, 2006 at 3:20 amHey, what a nice video!
Here is my bet:
Hands on a chroma with references (crosses, white points, etc) that get tracked later. For instance, a couple of points that define the ANGLE of the discs that are used.
Then, record on the street with each individual element. There’s a slight jump with the first car at 0:03 that makes me think that it was filmed in two parts. Cars have to get recorded making the full circle.
Then, each car has to get isolated (roto, perhaps) and each frame has to get an angle value. They must drive slow for more angle/time resolution.
Then, you join these angles with the recorded angles of the discs. The hardest part was probably to match exactly the rotation of the discs with the rotation of the cars. I don’t mean the track, but the position of the cars to make a full exact circle.

March 10, 2006 at 6:00 amThis is totally awesome, but If he’d (she’d) have put shadows from the hands onto the street, it would have been “beyond” totally awesome.
I still think it can be done with dups of clips and masks and Time-mapping and Split Layers.
Why don’t I think of things this cool?

March 10, 2006 at 11:14 amHi
The exection should have been made a fair bit more straightforward by the fact that the shot is locked of. A quality logical keyer would have helped to seperate the elements which could then have been retimed. Very nice idea, very nicely executed

March 10, 2006 at 4:24 pmJust want to bring another point of view, if you don’t mind.
As for the idea of the vid’…Maybe the main idea didn’t came from them…maybe they refered to Pink, the singer, with her popular song in wich she says:
Life is a DJ and life is a dance floor 😀
Doesn’t mean I’m assuming they took the idea from Pink, but music (as well as the lyrics) are, for many clips, a good way to start your main idea. I’m sure you all know that 🙂
Thx for posting bud.

March 11, 2006 at 5:42 amYou might also want to look at the “e4 ident” by Chris Cairns. I think it was done before the above spot. Not sure thought.
