I’m using camtasia to record some web demos for university career services videos. Does anyone have any advice as to how to best set up to record off the web to edit in PP2? I will also be shooting some video at the usual 640 X 480 to cut together with the web stuff in PP2. Then the finished videos will be posted on a website, most likely at a size of 320×240. What I really need is advice on how to properly set up the camtasia to import the avi’s into PP2 so I can edit an effective video that will look good. Thanks.

The problem that you’ll find is that when you record from Camtasia, you really don’t want to reduce the size or people won’t be able to see anything.

DVD video is 720 x 480, so if you could capture only that size and keep the same size for your video, then it should show up fairly well.

I’d experiment with frames per second.
I think their standard is 15, which should be fine for most captured demonstrations.

I’ve found that exporting using 15 frames or 30 works just fine but that is the easy part. The trick to keeping the video clear is how you EXPORT it from APP2.0. After many attempts I’ve been unable to get clear video from App2.0 because there is a bug in the software when you try to use the Tech Smith Screen Capture Software. I upgraded to APP CS4 and all of my clarity issues are gone. Here are my settings for export.

Codec: Tech Smith Screen Capture Codec

    Microsoft AVI

Frame Rate: 15 (this really helped with speeding up the download/streaming)
Field type: Upper First (This gave the video the clarity that I’ve been working towards all this time)
    Aspect: D1/DV NTSC
Render at Maxium Depth (16 bit)

Here is an example video produced with the output settings from above.
