Looking for video tutorial on selective color usage
Posted by Nathan Quattrini on April 25, 2008 at 1:47 pmNot sure where I saw it before (and if it was Premiere or AE), but I`m looking for a tutorial on how to do the effect where lets say the most common thin, I want to keep a rose color and everything else black and white. Thanks

April 26, 2008 at 11:16 amIt is a bit easier to do in AE, but can be done in Premiere. Put your video clip in V1 and a duplicate copy in V2 over the clip in V1. desaturate the clip in V1 to make it gray scale. Apply a 8 point garbage matte to the clip in V2 and toggle animation on for each point. Use the matte to outline your flower, changing the location of its points over time.

April 26, 2008 at 1:40 pmI also just saw this in DV magazine.
In AE he uses Effect – Color – Leave Color.
Do a search in the mag for the details or subscribe.

April 26, 2008 at 7:21 pmI believe you want to research the “Color Pass” effect.
You may need to use a loose garbage matte as well though. It depends on what else is in the frame.

April 26, 2008 at 7:22 pmIf the rose is the only red object, you can do Mike’s method with an inverted chroma key (on red) instead of an animated matte.
