I still use a PD150 and have been holding off going to HD but I recently saw the Sony EX1 at a local trade show and was very impressed.

Has anyone tried this or any of Sony XDCAM camera’s with Premiere ?

FCP appears to have a codec to accept the EX1 files and the only info I see is to use Cineform for Premiere ?

Any recommendations on a workflow for this camera ?

I plan to rent the camera before buying so I need to make sure I can actually edit the XDCAM HQ footage.

    Thanks

This subject has been a “hot button” issue on the Adobe Premiere forum, generating its own sub-forum. Cineform seems to be the short term solution as Premiere now cannot import the EX-1 files. I suspect Adobe will address this with an update at some point…maybe about the time Sony gets caught up on back orders.

    Hi there,

There seems to be two possible answers to the question: EX1+PPro CS3= ?

Add either Mainconcept’s Mpeg Pro HD3 or Cineform (Prospect HD??) and you can edit native EX1 files.

So here is the question… does anyone know which one is better?

And… what is the ideal workflow… or should I just to to fcp 6 since adobe can’t get its shit together.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

I’ve used the Mainconcept and it was ok.
I am using FCP Suite 2 to edit.
I then use compressor’s HD DVD 19Mbps MPEG2 setting to encode the files.
To finish I use Adobe Encore CS3 to create the BLU-RAY discs for the project.

Please note that most Blu-ray players need a firmware upgrade to play the burned Blu-Ray discs, these are available for download on the players manufacturers website.
