  Squashed image problem – 16×9 v 4×3

  Hi All.

  I am trying to create a DVD with premiere and my JPEG images are ‘sqaushing’ when written to DVD.

  The goal is to play the disc on a 42inch Plasma screen. Should I use 16×9 or 4×3 pixel ratio to stop the images squashing? I do not want a black line top and bottom of the screen. I want a full screen image. Would this be because I am using the wrong pixels in PhotoShop – square instead of 16×9?

  I have also created a 3D animated logo (in Max 7) and this is also ‘squashing’ up.

  If by “squashing” you mean “stretching”, your problem is probably that your plasma is always set to full screen, meaning all 4:3 DVDs get stretched instead of addding black bars on the side.

  If you want 16:9, you have to start with 16:9 and keep that same workflow all the way to final export. That means you have to work in 16:9 in SdMax, and in a widescreen project in Premiere.

  If you have to work with 4:3 in your 16:9 project, you’ll have to zoom it in until you fill the sides. That means you will lose the top and/or bottom and some quality.
