I was wondering if any capture cards have hardware acceleration support for Premiere Pro on Mac, similar to cards for Final Cut Pro (and support FCP as well).

    thanks

The only cards offering hardware acceleration for Premiere are the Matrox Axio and RTX2. They will only work with PCs at this time.

There are many suppliers of I/O capture cards for both platforms, including Aja, BMD, and Bluefish, but these cards don’t accelerate anything. Some models do support hardware up/down conversion in real time.

I believe there are issues with drivers for these cards being available for Premiere on the Mac, especially if you intend to run FCP on the same box. But I’m sure they are working on it.

From the research i’ve been doing on companies’ websites that’s what i’ve been seeing.
Right now i am leaning towards the BMD Decklink HD Extreme, it says that it supports Premiere Pro and FCP as well as After Effects and other graphic programs.

It talks about its Uncompressed codec working in real-time. have you had any experience working with this?

I’m basically looking for the best way to work in uncompressed and reduce my rendering as much as possible. I was originally looking at the AJA Kona card since it has Hardware acceleration for FCP, but now that Premiere is in my work flow (mainly because of after effects), it doesn’t seem like the Kona card is the best choice for working in both edit programs.

    Thanks

Personally, I am keeping a close eye on Cineform Neo. “Visually lossless” yet relatively small files. Mac and PC compatibility. FCP and Premiere both supported.
Coupled with the right hardware for HD monitoring on a dedicated display (Decklink Intensity compatibility on the horizon) , I’d be willing to comprimize on the realtime effects of other solutions.
