  Speed up HDV rendering in CS3/Win?

  I need to edit some HDV footage with Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, but have discovered to my dismay that my laptop is not up to the task. Is there a way to convert the footage to standard definition or even lower quality, edit it, and then replace the low quality footage with HDV?

  You didn’t mention what the speed of your laptop was, If its fast enough you maybe able to use a intermediate codec like Cineform, which might be better than offlining and matching GOP cuts.

  Hey Blast1, thanks for your reply.

  The laptop has a Pentium M 1.86Ghz with 2GB of RAM – perfectly adequate for a 3-camera shoot in standard definition, but it can’t even play a single HDV shot.

  I did some more experimenting. I rendered a minute of HDV footage to lower quality. I placed it into an HDV sequence and discovered that it would still only play at a few frames per second – with no effects, transitions, or anything. However, in the program monitor, it would play perfectly. I tried MPEG2 and H.264 with identical results.

  I would recommend downloading a trial version of Cineform Aspect HD and see if that helps.
