Hello there you awsome bunch of people.
I know that there is probably an answer for this problem somewhere on this site, but i am at the end of my tether today.

I am having a major problem which I have never come accross before. Basically, I have captured all my clips from my minidv cam through my firewire cable, as usual. Only this time, when I drag the clips onto the timeline and hit play, there is no audio.
Now then, I can hear the audio in every other screen except the monitor playbck screen. It is driving me insane!
I’ll be honest, it is probably something rediculously small to sort out, but I have no idea how to sort it. As I said, I have never had this problem before.

So if anybody knows how I can get to hear the sound in the monitor when I have dragged the clip onto the timeline… you would make me very happy indeed.

Oh… and yes, the speakers are switched on, and yes, the volume is turned up. 😉

any help with this wil be really appreciated.

    Thank you
    Jamie

    Try unplugging your firewire device.

    Is the track muted? 😀

Are you sure you’ve captured audio? Maybe you’re only hearing it when you play it off the camera. It didn’t sound like the case, but to be sure, check that there’s waveform on the track and that the vu meter is showing bars.

No, I don’t think the OP is crazy…I have the same problem. On my computer at home, sometimes I don’t hear any audio on footage I have captured into APP7 -sometimes if I restart the program later and start a new project and import the footage into it-I hear the audio. Its just weird!
I think it has something to do with the sound card. I just set up my new HP media center and its sound card (realtek) also conflicts with my other program (Avid MC). When I boot up Avid MC, it gives a “Failed to initialize audio” error and shuts down. I don’t have this problem when I switch back to my old computer (Sony Viao) or on the computers here at work so I’m thinking its the sound card. When I scrape up the $, I’m going to get a decent external card and see if that fixes the audio problems Im having using my NLE’s on the HP Media Center.

I don’t know if that’s the case with yours or not but maybe someone who knows about sound cards could answer that.
