Adobe Bridge (CS2)
Has anyone taken the time to use Adobe Bridge as an adjunct to Premiere? As I get more and more XDCAM HD MXF footage on my system, I am finding Bridge invaluable for renaming, sorting, searching, viewing metadata, and basically acting as an overall database organizer for my clips.
With XDCAM HD clips, it is usually easier to just copy the whole disk to a folder on the video drive than to transfer selects, so you typically end up with a lot of material to sort through later.
I usually have Bridge set up in compact mode over my Premiere project window (my right hand monitor), so I can scroll rapidly through a single vertical column of nice large picons with my mouse wheel. Another minimize button on the interface shrinks it to just a big button showing the current folder, which sits very nicely over the large blank area at the top of the project window. This gets it totally out of the way when not in use.
When I want to screen a clip, I simply drag it into the Premiere bin and double click on it to play in the source viewer. If I decide I don’t want that clip, I can immediately delete it from Premiere, keeping unneeded material out of the project.
There are all kinds of other neat things you can do, like marking your shots with color flags, and doing batch renaming. Renaming individual clips is a snap (select and hit the space bar), although you want to do that before you bring them into Premiere; otherwise you will have to relink.
It is especially handy for file based workflows, where clips are imported rather than captured – particularly XDCAM and P2.
Next thing to do…figure out Version Cue.
