I cannot import AVI or MPEG2 files
Hi can someone please help me I cannot import MPEG2 files as premiere pro does not recognise the files & when I try import AVI files Premiere crashes saying it has encountered a serious problem ?

Presumably a wrong codec. It should be MS-DV avi type 2.

Do you have Premiere Pro 2.0 or higher? Are you trying to use AC3 audio which is not supported without a workaround?

Thank you for replying, I am using premiere pro cs3 I will check the codecs and audio type, can someone please recomend what is the best programme for converting MPEG2 to AVI. Again thank you very much

Does anyone know if there is a way to import MPEG2 into premiere CS3 so I don’t need to convert the file at all ?

Two questions:
1. do you have the tryout version?
2. is the avi you are trying to import divx or a similar format? -
You can import mpeg2 files by useing (Mpeg Pro HD)plugin for premiere.it is made by mainconcept.
