  Clipping frames and removing black edges?

  Hi Folks

  I am using Premiere Pro 1.5 on XP

  I am cutting up a long sequence of film (approx 1hr) into small segments of around 30secs, with a frame size of 720X576. The video is of two people moving around the center of a stage. AS there is a lot of dead space around the edges, i have clipped the frames. However, this leaves big black edges to the frames.

  What i want is to export the part of the frame that only shows the people, and not the black edges. I dont want to zoom, or upscale the portion of the frame that is left. Ideally i would like to just export the part of the frame that actually has people moving on it, but so far i seem to be able to only export at the 720X576 level, with big black edges or with massive people.

  any ideas would be great

  Phil,

  The question is: Export to what? If you mean Windows Media or Quicktime or Flash, then no problem. If you mean to DVD, forget it. DVD has set rules.

  Start by exporting the DV AVI at 720X576.

  All you need to do is create a custom project at the frame size you want to use, let’s say 576X576 with square pixels. Then import the normal sized clip and put it on the sequence. The extra will hang over the edges and not be seen.

  Then export the exact same frame size of the project to any of the export codecs you want.
