    Hello ppl,

I am creating a touristic dvd documentary and I am currently working with the audio. What I am going to do is mix a soundtrack and several voiceovers to specific parts of the video. Maybe a second female voice too. What in your opinion and your experience is the best way to achive a good result? Having the audio play constantly in the desired level and compressing with the voice to a master channel? Having the music to go lower when the voice is heard and then high again? Some other way? If there are some things you suggest in these situations, please feel free to share them with me. I am recording the sound through a sound blaster live, froma Shure SM58 dynamic microphone passed from am Behringer MX1602 console.

    Thank you in advance,

    Theodore

It’s always best to dip the background audio during a VO. Avoid using a compressor to automate it as they’re slow to respond and sound un-professional.

Perhaps the easiest way is to lay down the tracks as required and set keyframes on the background audio track to control the volume level during VOs.
