  exporting issues

  Hi all, i’m tearing my hair out with this and hope someone can help…

  I have finished editing my imported clips in the timeline, they are from MiniDV set to widescreen in the project settings and also in the camera so everything looks sweet from my project viewing window.

  Exporting however i have came across a very nippy problem in that once exported in 16:9 pal, the aspect ratio when played in windows media player or any avi viewing software, including burned DVD has very annoying black lines down the left and right hand sides of the picture, and it’s been squished in to give everyone a taller, thinner head.

  I’m exporting to DVAVI using 16:9 ratio and the project is just a home vid shot using widescreen mode on my miniDV camera.

  should be straight forward but for some reason my export , even though the finished AVI file states 16:9 aspect ratio, it clearly isn’t??

  any ideas on how this came to be or how to fix it?

  Thats the description of a anamorphic DV clip viewed on a 4:3 tv set or a widescreen(has very annoying black lines down the left and right hand sides of the picture) set in 4:3 mode, if viewing on a normal tv check the setting of the DVD player to make sure it set properly, to letterbox the video or set the widescreen tv to the wide mode.

  Unfortunately, in my experience I’ve never seen Windows Media Player plays back footage that wasn’t square pixels. That said, if you use VLC, which is a free media player, you can manually set the aspect ratio so that you can see how the video was intended to be watched.

  As for the DVD, whether or not Windows plays back the file right or not, it was exported as an anamorphic dv avi, all you need should need to do is set the project to 16:9 in your dvd authoring program. That will flag the player to adjust the video for the proper aspect ratio. So it’s possible that you may have set your dvd project for 4:3. If that’s not the case, for whatever reason, your DVD player isn’t adjusting for that, so as said in the other post, there should be an option by using the DVD remote, to adjust the aspect ration.
