Audio Problem after Relink
Very frustrating and nerve-wracking problem. I’m editing a 2-hour long program which features a host shot on a green screen. For the rough cut I simply edited the host pieces in “raw.” The captured files are named “Host-01”, “Host-02”, etc.
I brought the original “Host” footage into After Effects, did my keying/compositing and then added all of the comps to my render queue and selected a folder on a different drive from my Premiere scratch disk (where my original “Host” footage resides). Render my freshly composited “Host” clips, which I name the same as the originals, i.e. “Host-01” etc…
Back to Premiere… I choose my original “Host-01”, “Host-02”, and on down the line all the way to “Host-36″… I choose “Make offline…”, then choose “Link Media…” and direct it to the other folder on the separate drive where my composited “Host” clips reside.
Everything seems to work fine. I watch my timeline, and when it gets to “Host-01” everything seems groovy.
However, when I reach the portion of the program where “Host-02” is, everything goes awry. The audio from “Host-01” has been attached to “Host-02”. Then I notice that the audio from “Host-01” has been attached to ALL of the newly composited “Host” clips.
This is the second time this has happened, but the first time I tried it, the audio from all of the clips simply vanished. Upon inspecting my scratch disk, I noticed none of the “Host-01.stereo1” .wav files that should have been there.
I’m wondering if this problem has anything to do with naming the composited clips the same as the original files… I am at my wit’s end. And of course the deadline is tomorrow. I can’t conceivably take all of the composited “Host” clips and try to sync them to the audio for the original “Host” clips. That’s a fool’s errand.
Any ideas?

Can you try linking the files individually to see if that makes a difference?

Yep, I tried that the second time, and that’s when I found the audio from “Host-01” attached to EVERY “Host” clip!
Wow, was I surprised.
I re-rendered to yet another drive, this time simply using “01”, “02” etc. instead of “Host-01″…. and it worked this time. It seems somewhat presumptuous of Premiere to delete all of the audio files associated with my original footage, without even asking me… alas.
