Importing a video – clip length not matching
I’m experiencing a new problem in Adobe Premier Pro 2.0 and was wondering if anyone in CC land can help me. I recently had to convert a powerpoint presentation into a video so I could add VO and effects to it. I used GeoVid Presentation to Video converter 5.3 and made an uncompressed 720 x 540 (same format/size as Powerpoint) video. I then loaded it into the timeline after setting it to a custom project properties of 720×540. When I added that video to the project bin and loaded it into the timeline it only shows 40 seconds of the 8 minute video. It won’t give me anymore of the clip to work with. I know it’s 8 minutes because of the file size, I already played and viewed it in windows media player and I loaded it in Sony Vegas 6.0 and it shows all of the 8 minutes. Does anyone know what might be wrong in Premier Pro’s settings that might be causing this? Can Premiere Pro handle a 720×540 video? Why is it only giving me 40 seconds of the 8 minute video to work with?

It is very likely that PP2 doesn’t support the codec used in your video converter. I would go back to the converter and look at the options for output format. If there is a “uncompressed” or Full Frames” option, use that instead.

Thanks Vince for responding. I did use Uncompressed avi and Cinepak codecs and neither would work. Really strange isn’t it? They are normal conversions. And the fact that it loaded ok in Sony Vegas has me scratching my head. I had to do the project in Vegas instead of Adobe Premiere Pro. Any other suggestions or thoughts?

Either one should work in Premiere without issues. I am assuming there was no audio there right?
What was the size of that 8 minutes uncompressed file?
The only other thing I could think of is a corrupted Premiere installation.

Hi Vince,
Yes the powerpoint conversion to AVi DID NOT have any audio. The uncompressed 720×540 avi was 15GIG and the Cinepack compressed video was 485 MB. Neither would load the entire lenght in Premiere Pro. But like I said before all loaded well in Sony Vegas. Since one was uncompressed there is no reason why it shouldn’t load all of the video in Premiere Pro. I’m at a total loss because of this. If it did the same thing in Vegas then I’d be able to isolate the problem. In all my years of editing I’ve never seen this happen. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s that GeoVid converter program and I just got luck that Sony Vegas was able to handle it.
