I can’t seem to get Divx or Xvid to work properly with Premiere. Every time I try to export a video, Divx creates artifacts all over my video, and Xvid simply locks up. I’ve messed with every quality setting I can find on Divx with no luck. I’ve set the bitrate to 3000 for a tiny 320×240 webcast, and the quality is still terrible. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I think the best approach is to just render to avi then convert to divx using a different software, like procoder or dr divx. the latter makes terrific conversions.

    hope it helps

    Hi,

The problem that premiere hangs when rendering xvid usually comes with the xvid status window. Uncheck the popup status window from the xvid configuration and it should render.

Where exactly is that little Xvid pop up unchecker? Because I’ve been having EXACTLY the same problems. It is not normal that a professional grade program like Premiere can’t handle a simple Divx export. I did a little test and the way it worked for me was that from Premiere I exported uncompressed .avi which I then converted to Divx using Sony Vegas (the reason I don’t use Vegas for editing here is because it freezes when I drop my clips on the timeline).
But even though I got it to work, this isn’t the slightest bit normal. Why can’t all the different formats and codecs just get along and not give me such headaches?
