    ALl,

I’m mulling over upgrading from Premiere 6.5/DVDit! to Premiere CS3. Adobe is showing the upgrade for $299. Do you know if he upgrade also includes Encore CS3? Since they’ve bundled it with Premiere CS3, I would assume it does but I’d hate to assume anything. Also, has anyone heard if that upgrade price is only a “pre-released” price or if it will hold after the CS3 is available?

    Thanks,
    Gary

It appears that Encore is part of the Premiere Pro package now, and I imagine that the price will be good for quite some time. I don’t remember if Adobe is in the habit of raising prices after initial releases. I don’t think they do. You should have plenty of time.

You can upgrade to Premiere Pro 2.0 now for $199 and you will be upgraded to CS3 for free when it comes available. I confirmed with Adobe that the free upgrade to CS3 will include Encore. That will save you $100 and give you a chance to use Premiere Pro for a few months before CS3 comes out. There is a learning curve coming from 6.5, but it is a MUCH better program.

I saw that but I thought the free CS3 upgrade was only good for Full purchases and not upgrades. If they’d let me upgrade to PP2 AND take advantage of the free CS3 upgrade, that would be the way to go!

The free upgrade to CS3 will work if you purchase an upgrade to PPro 2.0 now. I did check this on the phone with Adobe and made sure that CS3 did include Encore.

This scenario is silly. Why not just make the PPro 2 to CS3 upgrade $199 instead of making people buy the PPro 2 upgrade at $199 to get a free upgrade to CS3? Alfred E Newman must work for Adobe and dreamed this one up!

Perhaps they want people to be hooked up to Prem Pro and therefore wins more market when CS3 came out?

Valid point…so why not just make the upgrade the same price for both the new PPro 2 user and the old PPro 2 user?

I called Adobe and asked them about the upgrade. They said that if I only wanted Premiere CS3, it is now available for $299 and pushed hard to sale it to me. I asked if I could just order the PP2 upgrade for $199 and then request the CS3 upgrade. Her response was “… Well I guess if you want to do it that way you can.” I ordered the PP2 upgrade.

PPro CS3 is not ready until June, I talked to Adobe Rep again (3rd times) today.

P.S.: I also ordered PP2, but from Amazon (for $182 w/ free S&H) and called Adobe today to request the free upgrade. Everything went smoothly.
