  PP: HDV to DVD export

  Hi all,
  Although this topic was discussed earlier I am still having a few issues with DVD authoring from HD material within Premiere Pro 2.0:

  Project is HD NTSC captured from a Sony HDR-HC3. I am exporting directly from the timeline to DVD (I am not using Encore). The resulting DVD appears blurrier than what you would expect from downsampling to MPEG2. Also, I am not sure I am using the correct settings for a widescreen DVD originating from HDV. So I guess my questions are:

  (1) What settings should I use to obtain a DVD in widescreen format (just like a widescreen movie) from HDV material?
  (2) Is the quality of the DVD export from within PP any worse than other solutions (Encore, etc.)? Should I convert the HD material to SD before DVD authoring?

  Appreciate any feedback.

  I think you need to import your HDV project into a SD project and scale your motion properties down to 45 percent and then output MPEG2 to get a clean export. I am not a hundred percent sure on this but maybe some experts can chime in. I thought I would give you something to try until you hear from the pro’s on HDV.

  Well, you should really let your camcorder do the export in DV, Premiere has a little issue when it comes to scaling HD down.

  Premiere and Encore use the same encoder, so the quality will be the same. Just start with a widescreen project within Premiere.
