Please help guide me to build a bargain basement system
Hello all,
Sorry to post another system build question. I’ve read all the post I can find on system specs and recommendations and I’m now thoroughly confused. I’m a college student currently who likes to edit in my free time. My current system is a 3.2 P4 system with 1 gb ram, sys drive, render drive and two drive raid 0 for video. I’m using an older version of Liquid Edition (5.5) and am looking to upgrade. The Adobe Production Suite sounds to be the best way to go because for roughly the same money as the Avid Liquid upgrade, I can get the Adobe bundle at student pricing ($600).
So after the $600 for the software, I’ll have about $1200 to build a new system. Can anyone provide the best mobo / graphics cards for that price range. I figured I would build it around a Intel E6600 processor and can reuse 3 of my drives for now (they’re SATA)

I am not sure what type of system you are looking for. Are you editing HDV? Or just DV?– Aanarav

Right now I’m editing DV, but I’ll soon be moving into HDV. Is it still advantageous to use a Cineform product with Premiere for HDV on less expensive systems?

Sorry, it would help if I gave you more info.
Right now I’m using a couple of different DV cameras, but will have access to HDV equipment soon (Sony z1u and Pana HVX200). I typically edit one or two camera shoots of school projects and performances, family events, weddings, photos montages, etc.
I will be using Redrock Micro’s adapter for several projects as well, so I guess I need to know if Premiere will handle the flip or if I’ll have to use another program.

Yes, doing native HDV can be a drain on system resources.
A Asus P5W DH DELUXE is a good mobo.
Most Nvidia cards 78xx and up.
You can probably reuse all your drives, system drives don’t have much impact on performance once a program is loaded.

You didn’t say what format camcorder for the redrock, DV, HDV? and the kind of lenses you plan on using?
Problem isn’t usually the NLE but how to preview the footage if using anamorphic lenses like a 1.85 or 2.35 -
On the HVX200 do you plan on capturing directly to the P2 cards? If so, you will have to pay an additional fee to get MXF import capabilities.

Hey, thanks for the replies.
I have used the redrock adapter on a Pana DVX100a and Sony z1u so far. Its borrowed, along with the Z1U, and uses Nikon lenses.
Right now, I’m shooting mostly with my JVC GY-DV5000u.
As far as the Pana HVX200, I haven’t used it yet. How much is the additional fee? Is there a work around?
