  • Capturing from Analogue to Digital in Premiere.

    Hi everyone.

I know there is someone out there who can sort out this query for me, so I have a question.

Up to now I’ve been capturing/importing all my footage as ‘AVI.’ files in Premiere, via a ‘ADVC’ (analogue to digital) device.

Today I was asked if I can change the file format and import a new job as a ‘DV’ file rather than an ‘AVI’.

Does ‘DV’ mean ‘Digital Video’ or is this an actual file format?

Is it possible to import/capture in other formats (Such as ‘MPEG, MPEG2’) and how would I select these new formats in Premierepro 2.0?

I hope this doesn’t sound too much of a silly question!

    Many thanks in advance.

    Bruce.

[Brucie Baby] “Does ‘DV’ mean ‘Digital Video’ or is this an actual file format?”

Yes, DV is ‘Digital Video’, DV is usually short for DV AVI, the normal video Premiere works with, when you run analog through the converter you have DV AVI to import to the computer.

And in addition to what Blast1 said, keep away from MPEG formats. They are not suitable to editing, just for delivery.

Thanks to both of you – I always appreciate a professional perspective on answers to my questions. I must say I get a lot more results from this forum than the official ‘Adobe Premiere’ helpline that cost me
