Suggested settings for DVD authoring with 720-59.94p content?
I’m working in PremPro2 with 720-59.94p content shot on the HVX and converted using AspectHD so that I can edit in PremPro. I am having trouble creating good looking DVDs from this content and am looking for suggestions on what I might be doing wrong.
I first files I created using Adobe Media Encoder (AME)with the following settings:
NTSC, 72×480, 29.97ndf(fps), progressive field order, quality 5,
48kHz, 16bit, PCM
VBR 2-pass, 7MbAvg, 1.5-9Mbs min-maxAfter creating this file I review it using WinDVD and author using Sony DVD Architect. I only use Architect instead of Adone Encore beause I am in a rush and am more familiar with authoring and tweaking settings in DVDArch. I addition I don’t have the SurCode plugin for PremPro and use the built in DolbyDigital encoder in DVDArch.
The problem that I’m seeing is extremely blurred edge of objects as they pass by. The content I am working with is race car footage and the back end of each car has a trailing ghost. I can see this when the DVD is playing back AND if I single step through frames. I dont see these issues in my original HVX source. The blurred frames I’m seeing in the DVD encode look like problems with native progressive to interlace issues.
After seeing the problems in the AME created files I decided to try using more the default settings that come up when you select “Burn DVD”. Those settings are:
NTSC , 720×480, 29.97 ndf (fps), lower field first, quality 5,
48kHz, 16bit, PCM
CBR 7MbpsNow this DVD plays back a little better but still has some trailing edges issues. However the detail is not so good but I’m assuming that is because I did a CBR encoding this time.
Sorry for being so verbose but I figure more detail is better and I’m having a hard time trying to get this 720-59.94p stuff to look half as good on the DVD as it does in HD.
Thanks
