Large AVI into Adobe Premier Pro 7
I don’t know if its the file type, the size, or the formatting of it, but when I try to import an AVI file into premier it simply says importing files… and does nothing. My original task is to take 3 mini disc dvd’s from my bosses trip and combine them. Edit out some parts, such as the inside of his bag that went on for quite a while, and then create a new dvd that includes the pictures he also took with the dvd-r camcorder. I’m probably going about it the wrong way, so if anyone has a suggestion of how I should start let me know. I have no problems ripping the dvd files, or getting the images. I was even able to compile them into a avi file, but I’m having trouble authoring a new dvd. I thought I would be able to do that with premier, am I wrong? Alright thanks for the help, also if you need more information just ask, I’m new to this kind of work, I’m a computer tech not a video editor.

Go download a free application called “GSpot”. Drag the file into it and it will tell us what the codec used for the file is.

If you are importing files that were recorded on Mini DVD-R, you are better off using Adobe Premiere Elements 2, which supports that format natively. Premiere Pro gets a bit quirky around modern consumer camcorder formats.

When you rip the files you need to use AVI Type2 and not Type1. Does your software have that choice?
