  • The definitive line on Production Studio’s License…

As pointed out some time ago, Adobe Production Studio has one blanket serial number for the entire collection of applications.

As I mentioned in that thread, that number will activate on two computers with the intent of giving one user an “office” system and a “home/travel” system.

I now have the definitive policy on this. Though these two installations will both activate, they are not meant to be working simultaneously. Technically you need a new seat for every machine running the Production Studio at one time. The app isn’t designed to be partially installed on the two systems (AE on one, PPro on the other, etc.) to alleviate the need for another number. It is considered a composite app. Think “Office” for video. Microsoft doesn’t alow you to install Word on one machine and Excel on another…it’s one app.

For those of you who may complain that these apps are expensive, I’ll simply remind users in advance that it wasn’t long ago that Adobe charged more for After Effects Production Bundle than they do for the entire Production Studio package now…

    So…if you’re curious…there’s the real deal.

Are you saying that, if we do 2 activation from one S/N that the apps will be blocked from operating on the same LAN?

    I’ve not tried this.

I suppose you’d have to attempt it and see. But clearly it violates the spirit of the license, even if it is not blocked.

Agreed, it’s kind of like having two cars and one ignition key.

Thanks for the update Tim, I guess I’ll just have to fork out the extra for another copy of Photoshop CS2 & Encore 2.0 if I want to carry on running my business the way I have for the last 18 months. For me, this makes the package not quite such a good deal after all.
