I’ve edited with Avid for over 10 years and Final cut since version 1. Now I’m working on Premier and I’m trying to get it to do somethings that I know the other two applications can. After checking my manual I can not figure out if the following can be accomplished in Premier Pro 1.5:

–Are we able to view material in the source monitor and on the a ntsc monitor via firewire? Seems to only be viewable when material is placed on the timeline.

–Is there a short cut for setting in and out points for the work area? I know in after effects it’s B and N.

–Can the timelines time code be altered? That is, starting a timeline sequence at 2:00:00:00 or 00:59:00:00

    Thanks!

There is no way to view the source monitor over the firewire. That is from the sequence only.

Alt+[ sets the in point of the workarea, and Alt+] sets the out point. Look in the Keyboard customization for the Windows portion and select timeline. You can change the shortcuts to anything you wish, including B and N if you wish. Those letters are used in ripple and rolling edits. But you can override and change them if you wish.

The wing menu on the timeline allows you to change the zero point of the sequence if you wish.

My clips play back on both the source monitor as well as the NTSC monitor via firewire…as does a clip in my bin when you click on it and hit the space bar.

Make sure your Project Settings-DV Playback Settings are setup properly. Also…power up your DV deck/camera before your launch PPro.

For your timeline timecode, there’s a small arrow in the upper right of your timeline…select Sequence Zero Point and set your initial timecode.

    I’m using 1.5.1 with a Sony DSR-30.

Great! I found that after toggling the playback settings made the source footage appear on the NTSC monitor.

    Thank you.
