  • Jerky HDV Playback Src/Mon expected with X2 3800+, 7800GT, 1G, SATAII PP2?

I captured a 300mb HDV clip from Sony FX1 1080/60i and the playback within PP2 is jerking up and down, back and forth. Is this REALLY to be expected? Latest nvidia drivers, and playback of the same clip within Vegas/Edius/Media Player is fine.

I used the Adobe HDV 1080i60 project settings which forces the project to Upperfield, and tried the different playback options; nothing seems to help.

(And please don’t tell me to switch to Cineform, I know it’s better, I just expected more with the speed of the AMD X2 and my graphics card)

Should it play back smoothly with my setup?

yes, it should play back smoothly. When I first tried playing a clip of native hdv it (PPro 2.0) didn’t seem to like it, but I restarted my computer and tried it again and it played great, even with slowmotion and transitions on it. It also looked much better than the same clip from Cineform. (yeah I know that cineform is supposed to be so great, but side by side the native had much less compression artifacts on it) The shot was of a swimming pool with 30 or so kids playing in it. I also have a 7800gt and sata2 drives, but I’m using a Pentium D 830. I wish I knew how to help you, but just so you know, it should be playing back just fine.

Thanks, Steve, for your response. I wasn’t sure if I had enough horsepower for HDV editing. I did a re-capture of some clips last night, defragged, etc. and now it seems to be displaying much better. Weird, as always.
