Okay: I’m not doing a lot of editing, so I can’t remember all the niceties all the time, but I have a project to finish and a problem I’d like to solve.
I need to do a series of split edits (J-cut; leading audio). I’ve not mastered the rolling edit tool. I’ve used splits frequently in 16mm editing where I would mark sync on workprint and mag track, make the pix edit, and pull the track up to match. I’ve tried that in PPro: razor at pix edit point, unlink pix and audio in the leading portion of the clip, delete the leading pix portion, move the leading portion of the audio track ahead a good bit, pull the remainder of the clip (linked pix and audio) up to the edit point, and move the leading portion of the track back into sync. Awkward, I know, but it should work. The problem is that I can’t move the leading portion of the audio track ahead. In fact, that portion won’t respond at all; won’t highlight, won’t move, won’t delete. In a few cases where the preceeding scene is a graphic I can stretch the graphic to cover the leading audio, but that’s not going to work every time — and there are a lot of edits.
    Any thoughts?

ALT KEY – DRAG Head or Tail of Audio or Video part of clip.

I tried your suggestion; it didn’t work.

Now I have an additional(?) problem:
Neither audio track responds to the mouse. I can’t select, move,
or delete any audio track clip. I’ve changed track targeting,
toggled track output, tried everything else that seems at all
reasonable, but nothing works. I can Undo and reInsert or Overlay,
but that’s really awkward and it’s useless away from the immediate
    working area.
I really need a solution; I’m trying to get this piece out. Any
thoughts/suggestions? I can reload PPro if that would help, but if
I’ve just missed (or screwed up) a switch that I’m not familiar with,
    that would be easier.
    Help needed/appreciated.

What does the manual / help file suggest for a J or L cut (Do that)

BTW: I use it (as per my post) and it works fine.

I’ll check your suggestions as I have time altho I’ve developed a
    couple of work-arounds.
Let me repeat my newest problem:
