Long encode for web
I have to shoot and encode a presentation that will run 1 to 1.5 hours. What is the best way to handle the encoding so it will start streaming almost immediately when clicked? Should it be WMV? MPG1? Other?
I can encode using PPro 1.5 or Sorenson Squeeze 3.0.
I’ve never encoded a file this long…I’m concerned about performance.

If you want to Stream immediately, your best bet would be Flash Video. I am not an expert on Flash Video or Flash in general, but stop by the COWs Flash forum and you may get a better detailed response.

Thanks, Annarav. Before I head over to the Flash forum, can I convert to Flash using PPro or After Effects. I don’t have Adobe/Macromedia Flash software. And what about a file that large?
And let’s just say this file has to be WMV or MPG1. Is there a way to have it stream soon after clicking on the hyperlink? What other issues might I encounter?

Well, with the other formats, you may notice repetitve buffers, which is something you want to avoid because it is really annoying to view a video that stops and resumes every couple of seconds. But, that all depends on the web host you are using.
You can export flash video from AE 7 and Premiere Pro 2.0
