    I have cut two clips butted to each other and then added a transition. PP then seems to add back frames to the clips. Is this normal, if so, I would have to cut back ? frames to compensate for this. Can any one explain this problem.

    You are correct in what Pro does…adds 15 ( on a 1 sec trans) frames to the out point of the first clip and 15 to the in point of the second clip. In a perfect world, the editor makes the decision to add a transition while cutting the clips in the source window and then cuts it appropriatly, knowing what the “extra” frames are.
