  Sudden Erratic Behavior of PPro 1.5

  Two months of solid performance editing 50 minute documentary and suddenly:

  1) Occasionally can’t drag audio crossfades onto clip in timeline. Randomly works, then randomly doesn’t.
  2) Razor tool cursor icon disappears.
  3) Suddenly has trouble playing certain high-resolution stills in preview window (shows black).
  4) Program occasionally locks up after I modify and save a title. Locked up so bad I had to choose “end program” and lost 45 minutes of work–even though it was automatically saving every 5 minutes.

  I wondered about:

  1) Excessive heat in my case? Case has 6 fans. There was some dust inside, but I blew it out and problem persists.
  2) Virus? I scanned it and came up with nothing.
  3) Hard drive going bad? System shows all drives are “healthy”.

  System:

  3.0 Mhz intel processor
  1 gig DDR RAM
  5 internal hard drives with approx 600 GB space (all drives have at least 10 gigs free space right now).

  The system will go through a six-hour encoding process on the current program with no glitches.

  I have multiple saved versions of the current program (currently 9 versions).

  Media is spread through different scratch disks.

  Any ideas? Is it just gremlins in the machine? 🙂
