    Hi all,
We have this camera at work now, all is great, BUT…. problems start when we connect via firewire to the PC.
We get the error message cant activate recorder, try resetting camera???
We have triple checked all our capture / project settings but atill have problem.
This is very frustrating, we have urgent work to do, but can tget footage from camera into premiere pro.
PC is 3.4gig P4 2 gig ram, ati radeon 9550, matrox rt100 extreme. By the way we have tried taking matrox card out of picture, but get same error regardless.
    HELP!!!!!!

    Cheers in advance people!!!

    Suggest a process of elimination;
Will your cam connect OK on another PC?
Does another DV cam connect OK on your PC?
Does Device Manager SEE your cam in Imaging Devices?
    Try another firewire cable?

Mike I have been reading on the adobe forums that ALOT of other people are having same problems with their Z1.
Best answer I have seen is to try using aspect HD, but surely I shouldnt have to buy another expensive software package to let me capture HDV, or even DV from our very expensive Z1!
They are also saying that the HDV timecode appears to have problems as well?
Apreciate you thoughts and help on this!

You have upgraded to PPro 1.5.1, correct?

Tthis is the version that will handle HDV without the Aspect plugin (though you still may want it for speed.)

I’ve used the camera with PPro 1.5.1 and Aspect and haven’t had any issues. (not that that is helpful for you…just letting you know it’s possible).

And the Matrox can not capture HDV to my knowledge anyway.

You must have WinXP SP2 installed or you won’t have the drivers you need.

Just my 2 cents I had a alike problem but I could capture on other computers and with other cameras .. So I say try a different 1394 card .you would think thier all the same
but thats what solved the problem for me . I tried a belkin 1394 card and it worked fine .
The one that gave me trouble was a chepo from a compter show about 15 bucks …
    Hope this helps
