sumi-e effect in after effects
ok several question in one
ok im trying to now creat a sumi-e effect like in photoshop, now first and easiest, how do i creat this if after effects?
is there a way?
ok so if there is no way, what is the proper format to transfer video to photoshop so i can drag and drop the sumi-e effect onto it and bring it back as video into a.e. or what have you to export as a quicktime vid.

What is sumi-e?

Take your video clip in AE and render it our with either Filmstrip (flm) or a
Ctrl M, then in the Render Queue, Output Module>Custom, then in the Output Module, In that top dropdown choose filmstrip (filmstrip is my fav, it’s all one file in PS, so apply the filter once and you’re done. If you want to vary the PS filter setting over the frames, you need to choose a Photo Sequence, like PNG sequence (this gives you a series of photos, one for each frames that you then can batch process in PS)(people like PNG because it supports transparency).
In that Video Output section, in Channels, be sure and select RGB + Alpha (that will give you Millions of Colors +, that + is necessary if you want transparency around an object) .Anyway hit render, then import your flm or Photosequence in PS, apply filter, then re-import into AE.
Note: You can save some time on the re-import by hitting the twirly (Main Render Queue again, then in Post-Render Action, choose Import and Replace Usage from the drop down.
Note: If you like that Render setting and you’ll use a lot, make a template out of it, from that first dropdown in the Render Queue, just below Custom choose Template, name it, and then you can choose it quickly later.

and sumi-e is a japanese paint style that is also a very intresting effect when applied in photoshop, as it looks like each shot is hand drawn

OK, I know that Japanese style is not the same as Chinese, but Joe Chao sent us a Chinese Style Painting Effect Tutorial that you might get some ideas from:
