  Photoshop as Comp – revising in PS ruins Comp

  I find it very powerful to develop graphics in many layers in Photoshop, and import them as a Comp into After Effects.

  The only drawback is that after using the file in AE, often I see something I want to revise in Photoshop. But if I do that, it ruins the layer in AE. In place of the corrected layer, I see the “color bars” graphic which stands in for a lost layer.

  I’ve tried replacing footage, but I must be doing something wrong. I’d appreciate some guidance.

  Hi Bob

  I can’t replicate PS6 and AE 5.5 exactly;

  What happens for you if, when you edit your Photoshop file, you make sure you don’t change the names of any the layers, and then when you’ve updated and saved from Photoshop you open the *.psd folder in AE, select the layer, and from the right click / context menu select reload the footage ..?

  I think that not revising any layers might do the trick. I tried that, and it seems to work. Thanks.

  Of course being able to add layers in PS without wrecking the .psd-derived comp in AE would be even better. I will eventually upgrade my AE and PS, when the right deal comes along.
