  • PANASONIC HVX200 will PPro support it?

I just heard and read a little about the new panasonic HVX200, which will have 1080 and720 24p modes, and that sounds excellent to me. I prefer to shoot on the dvx100 dv camera, and would love to see that in an HD mode. Although I love the SONY HDV camera, I still miss the 24p look I get from the panasonic. My question is, will PREMIERE PRO support native dvcpro hd? Because when that camera comes out, I’m going to seriously look into it for all my HD work, and if I like it, will fit the editing softwre to the camera, not the other way around. Right now, it looks like FCP 5 will support both HDV and DVCPRO HD natively.

Since the camera is not actually available, it could take a while before Adobe could support it. My guess is that third party vendors will tackle the problem first.

True enough. And I doubt the camera will actually come out before the end of the year. But DVCPRO HD in general, know of any Prem. Pro support in the works?

Only a guess. I would keep an eye on Cineform. If it is possible, they are probably working on it. But I don’t know of any for certain.

taking a look at this webpage of the DVCPRO HD P2 partners doesn’t make me feel confident that Adobe is working on it at all…

The HVX200 is a $10,000 system (requires P2 cards to shoot HD) and will not inpact the prosumer ranks like the DVX100 has. I’m sure Adobe will support it but it is months away. Adobe just has to ad suport for DVCPRO HD and Varicam.

There is a solution in the works from Matrox, but it will be relatively pricey:

I hope, however, that Adobe will eventually have their own native support. (I predict they’ll buy Cineform!! 😉 )

    Kind regards,

If you look at the pre-release, it’s going to sell for $6100, support DV TAPE in addition to the P2 chip, so I think it’ll impact quite a bit on the SONY HDV Z1.
