Motion & Track Matte
When watching a certain video i noticed an interesting effect. Somewhere in the video there are white lines which seperate the video. Inbetween those lines (or a scaled up rectangle, i’m not sure) the video is being played at normal brightness, but outside those lines, the brightness is set lower. When using a track matte (and this tutorial: https://www.animationsforvideo.com/html/matteapp.htm ), this is a piece of cake. Using the same vid twice (track 2 and 3) and the matte.tga on track 4 with its reference to track 3, i managed to darken the video on track 2, while keeping the video on track 3 at its original brightness. I included two small white bars and the effect was born.
But i wondered if i could do more with it. For instance, in the same video, he moves that effect around. The space inbetween the lines get bigger and smaller and moves around the screen, ‘highlighting’ different parts of the underlying movie. Now this is where i hit a wall, as i can’t get the matte.tga moving around. Matte.tga has the motion options, but no matter what i do, the matte keeps its same size and won’t move around, scale up, rotate etc. I figured this might have something to do with the matte actually being turned off (clicked the eye, ‘disabling’ track4, see the upper tutorial), but i’m not sure.
I wondered if you guys know any way around this, or an alternative way of getting that special effect shown in that particular video. Thanks in advance.
p.s. I uploaded a pic here ( https://www.wastedspace.nl/~dinadani/bscap018.jpg ), for those who are still unclear on the effect i meant.
