Screen Replacement help for Galaxy S8 with round corners.
I need to do a screen replacement in After FX using Mocha. The phone is a Samsung Galaxy S8 and the footage in Premiere is 4K DCI scaled down to 2K DCI. I might just render out a plate at 2K DCI to track in Mocha, but does anyone know the correct screen dimensions for a Galaxy S8?
Also, Mocha will let me corner pin, but the phone has rounded corners. How do I deal with that?
I’m not super great in AFX as I’m mostly an Editor, but I’ve managed to hobble by with iPhone screen replacements before. I’ve never replaced a Galaxy S8 before, let alone a screen with rounded corners.
Any help would be super appreciated!

Use the normal screen replacement workflow, but do it with a precomp in which you’ve rounded the corners of the footage.

I’m not really sure how to round the corners of the footage. I’m kinda a newbie with After Effects.
I think I’m going to have to create the new UI myself. I don’t know the screen dimensions of a Galaxy S8. Also, do I have to keep this in mind when composing for 2K DCI?

Do you need to not only make the roundness, but also distort the view a bit in the corners?
If not above, just add shape layer in the pre-comp, add roundness modifier to it and adjust the value to match the mockup device.

I would recommend using Mocha to mask out the screen with rounded corner mask.
When you track in Mocha AE or Mocha Pro, you can also link that track data to a mask layer.You can comp your flat, square screen on top of the tablet, pre-comp, then use your Mocha generated mask with round corners… in AE, you select “Convert to AE Mask”.

I have a lot more to learn about Mocha. I’ve only used it so far for tracking phones with rectangular screens and then pasting corner pin data in After Effects. It sounds like you basically get rounded corners is by placing a “rounded” mask as an additional layer in After Effects… if I’m following correctly.
