Posted by John Dickinson on January 22, 2006 at 9:15 pmWould you be interested in 3D Invigorator (Pro) training and what would that training need to include?

January 22, 2006 at 10:33 pmHey John!
You changed your pict’, cool! 🙂
I would be very interested in a 3D Invigorator (Pro) training and the only thing I would like to know is how to create objects we never thought of creating in a little 3D software like Zaxwerks Invigorator.
I mean, Zaxwerks rocks, seriously, it’s the only 3D program I’ve ever used, but I always felt myself limited when the time came to create 3D objects (by the way, I use Illustrator, of course). I know we don’t have the same flexibility as in a normal 3D software but it would be awesome to see what are the limits in Zaxwerks for creating 3D models.
Thx John for caring about us 🙂

January 22, 2006 at 11:40 pmI’ve only dabbled with invig, but:
– how to fake reflections of your surrounding comp in a shiny object.
– dropping shadows on other layers ? -

January 22, 2006 at 11:59 pmHi Filip,
Just to get you going:
[Filip Vandueren] “- how to fake reflections of your surrounding comp in a shiny object.”
You could use your BG or a part of your surrounding as a reflection layer map.
[Filip Vandueren] “- dropping shadows on other layers ?”
It all depends on your animation here, but if you map the layer you want to cast shadows on to a plane in Invigorator (The plane must have the same aspect ratio then your layer) You will this way integrat your layer to the Invigorator world and be able to have it interact with the other objects.
If you have questions just let us know.
Salut.

January 23, 2006 at 4:29 amThe version 4 (Pro) of Invigorator has one of the options you can apply to a material that does the shadow thing.
You can make an object (or collection of objects) in the Invigorator that closely resembles something in your footage and make it a shadow catcher.
That way it looks like a shadow from your cool 3d logo is passing over the face of the Statue of Liberty. (Or whatever)

January 23, 2006 at 5:28 pmI’d really like to see some layer cycling work. I’ve made a few things “grow”, which is the effect I’m most interested in, so maybe what I need the most are tips on how to speed up that process in Illustrator. Illustrator is actually a strong suit for me, but the way I’ve been doing it is definitely a slow process.
I’d like to see more layer map using video; there was a nice piece that was a theatre-style tv with layer maps all over, which really helped, but I’m still clueless as to an original composition.

January 26, 2006 at 4:08 amI would love to see a tutorial on creating an open similar to American Idol or Dr. Phil, using glass materials. Thanks for your consideration, and thanks for your contributions to Creative Cow.
